Hopes & Dreams for Mackenzie
Welcome to the Hopes & Dreams for Mackenzie Team page! This is our 5th year with a team participating in this event and we are excited to be part of the Parkway Run/Walk once again. We hope that you can join us for this fun, family-friendly event which supports pediatric cancer research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
When our daughter Mackenzie was diagnosed with advanced Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in March 2004 we were devastated, but that was nothing compared to the devastation we've been feeling since she lost her battle to the disease six-years later on March 3, 2010. No family should suffer this pain.
We walk and run In Loving Memory of Mackenzie, hoping that advances in research will bring about better treatment options and a cure.

5K Run and 2K Family Walk: 8:30 a.m.
Post Race Buffet: 9:00 a.m.
Parking is available at 18th & Cherry Streets. The event will be held rain or shine.

Cancer remains the number one cause of death by disease in children. Despite major advances - from an overall survival rate of 10 percent just forty years ago to nearly 80 percent today, for many rare cancers (such as Mackenzie's), the survival rate is much lower. Furthermore, the number of diagnosed cases annually has not declined in nearly 20 years.
*Every day, 36 children are diagnosed with cancer.
*One child out of five who is diagnosed with cancer dies.
*Children's cancer affects all ethnic, gender and socio-economic groups.
*The average age of children diagnosed is six.
*More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year.
*Three out of five who survive children's cancer suffer late-effects, such as infertility, heart failure and secondary cancers.
