Dr. Altschuler Particpates in Healthcare Reform Discussions

CHOP’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Steven M. Altschuler, MD attended President Obama’s press conference on healthcare reform this past Wednesday in the East Room of the White House.  “As one of nearly 100 healthcare professionals from throughout the country, it was an exciting opportunity for me to learn more about the President’s plan for moving forward,” said Dr. Altschuler. The setting was a special one, since the East Room has hosted a number of significant events in our nation’s history – from the resignation of President Nixon to the signing of a peace treaty between President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.

“The President gave a very passionate speech about the need to act now on proposals to provide affordable, quality healthcare to all Americans.  I agree that this issue is vital and have spent considerable time and energy in Washington over the last year to make sure that children, and the providers that care for them, are strongly represented in this discussion.”

While there may be closure coming soon on healthcare reform, advocates must continue their hard work in support of pediatric healthcare – helping us all to continue our work in meeting the unique needs of children.
